Through strategic partnerships, we support increasing the power and topics in low-income communities and communities of color. You can view our strategic plan here. Values We believe in: Democratizing power considering it enables historically disenfranchised communities to determine their own destinies. Justice and probity considering only by reversing the historic and on-going oppression of low-income communities and communities of verisimilitude will we ensure the well stuff and joint prosperity of all Bay Area residents. Solidarity considering working together wideness class, race, and generations promotes power, polity resilience, and joint action. Sustainability considering it strengthens our communities for future generations by challenging the worldwide origins of segregation, sprawl, and climate change. Diversity, in all of its dimensions including race, class, gender, and age, considering our differences make us stronger. History Architect and regional planner Carl Anthony founded Urban Habitat in 1989. He and other like-minded colleagues saw how the inequitable distribution of public funds and undemocratic decision-making disadvantaged low-income communities of color. Carl and Urban Habitat’s early supporters saw an urgent need to develop leaders of verisimilitude who could write structural inequalities in regional land-use and transportation planning. Under Carl, Urban Habitat quickly became a leading icon in the environmental justice movement while pushing the mainstream environmental movement to confront issues of race and class. Urban Habitat made the specimen that environmental justice organizations should broaden their telescopic to include the impact of regional land-use, transportation, and housing decisions on their communities. Over decades, Urban Habitat has helped build multicultural leadership for sustainable minutiae in the Bay Area, while simultaneously broadening the definition of “sustainability” to include probity and justice.
